Get Involved!

Welcome to Baldwin High School! If you open yourselves up to new opportunities, school life can be both exciting and challenging. Joining a club or participating in an activity will have a meaningful impact on your high school career. You will meet people, become involved, and make contributions. Our school offers clubs and activities for all interests and talents. If you have not yet found your niche, many opportunities are open for you to explore.

Here are some tips for getting involved:
  • Determine what your non-academic interests are. Ask what talents or skills you have to offer or what you would like to learn.
  • Research the clubs and activities that are of interest to you. Meet with the sponsor and members. Attend a meeting. Ask questions in order to make a realistic choice.
  • Decide on the role you want to play. Each role is important, but some require more time and responsibility. Consider your talents, skills, and commitments before you volunteer.
  • Maintain a commitment. Once you join, stick with it. Do not be a member in name only.
  • Participate in more than one activity. If you have the time and interest, share your talents with another group but be sure that you are able to give your all in each activity.
  • Manage your time. Do not try to do it all. Review your priorities. It is better to be dedicated to one activity rather than being pulled into too many directions.
  • Look ahead. Aspiring to apply for membership in the National Honor Society in your junior year? Then become involved in clubs and activities during your freshman year and continue throughout high school.

Be sure to achieve a balance among your academic, extracurricular, and personal lives. Do not fall into the overachieving trap — joining an overabundance of activities is not necessarily better if you cannot handle the commitments.

Work to achieve a balance by:
  • Ranking your commitments. Avoid pressure. Create a schedule of your true interests and passions. Do not be afraid to say no if you are feeling pressure.
  • Relaxing. Do not allow yourself to stress out. Schedule time to rest and have fun with your family and friends.
  • Taking care of your health. Eat healthy foods, exercise, and get enough sleep. If you are feeling overwhelmed, consult your parents, friends, counselors, and teachers for help and advice.

More than anything, we want you to enjoy your experiences here. Make a commitment to ensure that your career at Baldwin High School is interesting and rewarding!
